Yann Capapé Masera grew up in southern France, in Provence, during the late 90s early 2000s. His parents are bith ceramists and social workers, thus he was surrounded by art his whole childhood.

His first encounter with a creative practice took place through music and drumming lessons, where his teacher would introduce him to alternatives and experimental music genres such as jazz fusion and electronic music.

Later on he developed an interest in photography and, with his first camera, started documenting the music scene and the local band of his hometown.
During his teenage years he moved to the biggest city in the region, Avignon, where he studied Cinema in highschool. These classes introduced him to script writing and filming. In the mean he befriended a group of artists, with whom he started doing graffiti and music videos. At the same period he began his first consistent photography project, taking photographs at night of the Palais des Papes’ worksite. He

After doing two years of internship in different artistic structures, he enrolled in Clermont-Ferrand art school. There he got introduced to contemporary, conceptual and modern art.

Following 6 month of inconclusive painting attempts, he started to work again with photography and films, and began to introduce photo books and installations in his practice.
He graduated in 2021 with his short film “ CRYSTALWATERS” he directed the same year, an experimental project that re interpreted the and ancient Provencal tale taking place near a mystic underwater cave near the village he grew up.

Since 2022, he has been studying for his master degree at Clermont-Ferrand’s Art School, working on an exhibition projects that will emphazise and draw inspiration in the tales of the first gold rush in North America. He’s also working on a group project for the Biennial De St Flour, an on-site exhibition that will take place in different remote villages of Cantal.
